Green Card and Citizenship through Adoption
Adoption offers many couples and families the chance to have children. Adoption also gives children from difficult backgrounds the chance to start a new life and have hope for a brighter future. Many humanitarians praise adoption as a noble cause that helps children in crisis. Adopted children enjoy many of the same rights and privileges as biological children. It can be costly and complicated to complete and submit an Adoption Application for a Green Card.
Eligibility requirements
Only citizens of the United States can adopt a child here. In order to adopt a child from abroad, a married couple must have at least one US citizen parent. Legally, the child must also be available for adoption. For orphaned children, the application requirements and procedures for applying for U.S. citizenship through adoption are different. Before submitting an application for Green Card Adoption, be sure to read the Green Card Adoption Application Manual.
Additional Information Quota restrictions could apply depending on where the adoptive child is from.
