What is Dual Citizenship?

A dual citizen is someone who is both a citizen and a citizen in two countries. You can also be a citizen in three or more countries. Each country has its own laws about dual citizenship. While some countries allow dual citizenship, others prohibit it. Some countries do not permit it. The U.S. government permits dual citizenship. The United States recognizes U.S. dual citizenship, but the U.S. government doesn’t encourage it as a matter of policy because of the potential problems. Foreign citizen cannot lose their citizenship by becoming a U.S. citizens. Naturalization can make a person a U.S. citizen, but they may retain their original citizenship.
