Green Card Replacement Application Guide

In order to help a United States permanent resident (Green Card holder) complete and file his or her own Green Card replacement application without the assistance of an immigration attorney, the Green Card Replacement Application Guide was developed. It contains all the required Green Card replacement application forms and detailed filing instructions.

Green Card replacement should be done immediately if it was lost, stolen, mutilated, destroyed, becomes illegible or if it contains outdated or incomplete information. You should also download the Green Card Replacement Guide to learn how to remove the “Conditional Residence.” You may have a "Conditional Green Card" if your Green Card was issued less than 2 years ago since conditional residence Green Cards are only valid for two years. The USCIS may start removal proceedings (also known as deportation) for individuals holding expired conditional Green Cards. They are considered “Out of Status.” You will benefit from the filing instructions on how to remove the conditional residence and apply for an unconditional and permanent Green Card in the Green Card Replacement Application Guide.

Green Card Renewal

Verify if your Green Card needs to be renewed. There is an expiration date printed on the front of the card. If your Green Card was issued over 10 years ago, your Green Card may be expired and you will be considered "out of status." It is possible that you would be denied entry into the United States when returning with an expired Green Card. It is urgent to keep your proof of permanent residence current and valid. It is recommended to download the Green Card Renewal Application Guide to receive additional information and filling instructions.

Green Card Address Change

If you only need to update your address, please download the Address Change application guide. Green Card holders must inform the USCIS of any address change since it is a misdemeanor to willfully fail to provide the USCIS with a written notice of address change within 10 days.
