Form I-864A, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member
Form I-864A is an attachment to Form I-864, Affidavit in Support Under Section 213 A of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Form I-864A is not mandatory, but if used, Form I-864A must be completed and signed by two individuals. The two individuals required to complete and sign Form I-864A are the sponsor who completes Form I-864 and a household member who is promising to make his or her income and/or assets available to the sponsor the help support the sponsored immigrants. The joint signing of Form I-864A creates an agreement that the household member is responsible along with the sponsor for the support of the individual named on the form.
A separate Form I-864A must be used for each household member whose income and assets are to be used by a sponsor to qualify. Form I-864A must be filed simultaneously with Form I-864.
Form I-864A should be used only when the sponsor's income and assets do not the financial requisites of Form I-864 and the household member chooses to combine his or her income and assets with the assets of the sponsor in order to meet the requirements. The contractual obligations of the household member who completes and signs Form I-864A continue when the obligations of the sponsor terminate.
