What is a Certificate of Naturalization
The Certificate of U.S. Naturalization (form N-550 or N-570) is a document issued by United States government as proof of a person having obtained U.S. citizenship through naturalization (a legal process of obtaining a new nationality). The Certificate of U.S. Naturalization has been issued since October 1, 1991 by the USCIS, and on or before September 30, 1991 by Federal Courts and particular State Courts. The United States Certificate of Naturalization is proof of an individual’s U.S. citizenship through naturalization. Only naturalized United States citizens can apply for a Certificate of U.S. Naturalization. If you are not a United States citizen, you must first apply for US citizenship.
Certificate of Naturalization Application
The Certificate of United States Naturalization Guide was developed to help naturalized U.S. citizens complete and file their own requests for a copy of their Certificate of Naturalization. This is a step-by-step-guide that will help you file your request as efficiently and quickly as possible. Only apply for a replacement certificate if your current certificate of naturalization is incorrect, lost, mutilated or destroyed.
What is the Different Between a Certificate of Citizenship and a Certificate of Naturalization
Naturalized U.S. citizens should apply for a Certificate of United States Naturalization, not for a Certificate of U.S. Citizenship. The process of applying for a certificate of naturalization and certificate of citizenship is similar; however, the two documents are not the same. Both documents entitle the holder to full benefits of United States citizenship, including applying for a United States Passport and the right to vote. However, the application requirements are different. Please refer to the
Certificate of United States Citizenship application guide for more information.
